Release Notes
-
V1.1 - 20-Oct-2022
- Reworked wind rose and wind direction to properly accout for averaging polar co-ordinates
- Add in weighted wind rose which multiplies wind direction by wind strength to reduce the influence of low wind speeds.
About
Weather station located in Drum, near Kinross in central Scotland
- Longitude: 3o33' West
- Latitude: 56o11' North
- Elevation: 145m asl
- Time Zone: GMT/BST - readings are in Local time
Weather station details
-
25-Sept-2019 to present :
- Waldbeck Halley Professional Weather Station - 6-in-1 Weather Measurements Details
- Data sent to Weather Underground with station ID of IKINR04. Data is then extracted using API and stored and processed locally, this means that all but the Today tab, their will be a delay of between 10 and 15 minutes.

Sensors:
- Air temperature
- Humidity
- Wind Speed
- Wind Direction
- Rainfall
- Light Intensity
- UV Index
- Air Pressure
- Sunshine - this is computed from light intensity. Only Maximum light intensity is available for any 5 minute period - if this intensity is greater than a threshold calculated using the sun's angle above the horizon it counts as sunny for that 5 minutes.

16-Feb-2004 - 20-Sept-2018 :
- Oregon Scientific WMR968
- Data stored locally using the serial interface from the WMR968 conrol unit
-
Sensors:
- Air temperature (19-Feb-2004 to 30-Apr-2014)
- Humidity (19-Feb-2004 to 30-Apr-2014)
- Wind Speed (13-Feb-2004 to 30-May-2014)
- Wind Direction (13-Feb-2004 to to 30-May-2014)
- Rainfall (16-Feb-2004 to 19-Nov-2014)
- Air Pressure (16-Feb-2004 to 20-Sept-2018)
- Humidity - from the data there is obviously change in the performance of the humidity sensor over time so the readings can only be used to give relative changes over time.
Stream Level
- This measures the water level of the nearby stream draining a catchment area consisting of part of Hoods Hill and ultimately draining into Loch Leven - because of measurement is made close to the source of the stream there should be little lag between the rainfall and the effects on the stream height.
- Sensor - Custom sensor, using VX53L0X time of flight sensor using an IR Laser to measuer the distance to the water surface. The data is then transmitted using LORA to a LORA receiver to save the data.
- Data collection started 16-Feb-2021
- This is just experimental, some issues have been encountered with unexpected distances measured - still need to determine the source of these issues.
Statistics
- Consecutive day counts - Frost, Rain, Sunshine - count of the number of concecutive days that the condition applies for, but if data is missing for more than a day then the count is terminated.
-
Sunshine - This is calculated from the Solar Radiation, using the sun angle (angle of sun above the horizon). This is also influenced by factors like atmospheric thickness (thicker near the horizon).
Data is currently being collected when it is sunny or not, and a line of best fit between the sunny and cloudy readings is used to determine if it is sunny. As more data is collected then this line of best fit can be refined.
Also the data is collected in 5 minute chunks from Weather Underground and only the maximum solar radiation is available for this time,
so if it has been sunny for any time in this 5 minute chunk the it counts as 5 minutes of sun - leading to an over estimate.
- Percentage sunshine: - Percentage of the Day Length for which the sun has been shining.
- Sunshine hours: - Number of hours of sunshine.
